Book Report – Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman
Subtitled “A Low Culture Manifesto”, this book is a collection of essays by musical and pop-culture icon Chuck Klosterman. He has written many books ranging from collections of essays and short fictional narratives to novels and autobiographical adventures. I’m detailing this book only because it was the first of his that I read.
I bought it blindly in a bookstore long before Amazon reviews were a thing. I loved it instantly and found his inquisitive examination of pop cultural events enthralling. I recall being literally excited to read it in the morning with my coffee. He was funny, on point, and his writing felt like an entertaining email from a clever, intelligent friend. He’s probably not for everyone, but check him out and if you like it, indulge yourself with all of his work.
At 272 pages, or 5 hours and 56 minutes, it’s a short read that’s broken into easily digestible essays which can be read in any order.
