Subtitled, “A Memoir of the Craft”, this book is Steven King’s autobiographical reflection on his life as a writer and his approach to the art. The book appeals to anyone as it offers a glimpse into King’s life as he grew to become the writer we all know today. He details his early struggles, self-doubt, and battles with alcohol and addiction. For any aspiring writer, the book is also a wealth of advice about the craft. It’s not a manual nor a ‘how to’ guide. Rather, it’s a successful author revealing his process, methods, and thoughts on how to approach writing. The ideas are there to follow word-by-word or to pick out helpful tips as one sees fit. Regardless, it’s a fascinating read and well worth one’s time and consideration.
At 320 pages or nine hours, the audio version actually “reads” longer than the print version. Either way, it’s well worth your time and money and should be on every writer’s list if it’s not already.
