Wise Guy by Nicholas Pileggi

Subtitled “Life in a Mafia Family”, this book was the basis for the movie “Goodfellas” and is the confessional account of Henry Hill, who served as an associate to a prominent New York crime family. Despite having seen the movie countless times, the book was still an incredible read. It was enjoyable to relive the parts I knew and it was extremely interesting to hear the parts I didn’t. Multiple elements of the real story were adapted or altered for the purposes of the movie and so the book felt like a new telling of story I’d heard many times.

At 290 pages or eight hours, it’s a mid-length book that you will burn through in a matter of days.
