Book Report – The Winter of Frankie Machine by Don Winslow

Don Winslow is a fiction writer specializing in crime thrillers. I first learned of him from a podcast interview he gave and was immediately engaged as he described his early experiences as a private investigator and on expeditions abroad.

The Winter of Frankie Machine follows a former mobster who has retired into a second life but is suddenly revisited by his past when an attempt is made on his life. The story then follows Frankie as he retraces his years in crime to unravel the mystery of why someone is now out to kill him.

At 300 pages, or just over nine hours, the book is an enthralling fun read that provides a great escape from a nonfiction diet.
