The secret to exercise programs is that it’s not about the program. It’s about deciding to get off your ass.

Over the years, I’ve had countless friends tell me about their new workout. Some jumped headfirst into Crossfit. Some tried P90X. Others did hot yoga. Some lasted longer than others. Few made permanent changes in their life.

One thing they all had in common was that they marveled at how well the new program worked. Each and every one was blown away at the results they wielded from their new regiment. They spoke with jubilance over how it really got them in shape. They were all shocked that their physical condition improved when they changed from doing nothing to following a scheduled exercise program. Each was mystified by the powers of their new program and were quick to sing its praises.

The secret to these programs is that it’s not about the program. It’s about deciding to get off your ass. There is nothing wrong with Crossfit or P90X. They are great workouts. But that specific routine is not what’s getting you in shape. You’re getting in shape because you decided to make changes.

It’s a lesson that applies to much more than exercise. Whether its sales calls or writing or organizing your closet, there is no magic program with all the answers. It’s not about a business seminar or an online course. There isn’t that one book that will crack the code. No guru needs to show you the way. It’s about you deciding to make a change. It’s just a matter of you deciding to take action.
