Book Report – Quitter by Jon Acuff

I learned of Jon Acuff by attending a speech he delivered in Nashville several years ago. He was there promoting his latest book “Do Over” and I was immediately impressed with his performance. Little did I know that besides being an author, he was also a professional speaker. I have since read several of his books and continue to follow him on social media.
I’ve enjoyed all of his books, however, I believe Quitter has been his best to date. It chronicles his time when he still worked full time in the corporate world while also cultivating a then fledgling writing and speaking career. The story itself is entertaining and worth the read, however, the book is lined with multiple lessons as well. My biggest take away was his point that often the achievement of one goal just creates a larger goal to work towards. After publishing his first book, he was often asked when he would quit his day job and write full time. The book examines the realities of that idea and illustrates the work and dedication needed to truly earn a full time living as a writer and public speaker.
At 256 pages, or 5 hours and 45 minutes, Quitter is a quick, enjoyable read that is well worth your time. Jon’s writing is personable and engages just enough humor to soften the delivery of its meaningful life lessons. Check out Quitter or any other books from his collection.
